Ľupča Castle Continues Its Restoration. The Project Also Reflects Železiarne Podbrezová’s ESG Commitment.
Ľupča Castle is entering another important phase of restoration. Over the next two years, reconstruction work will focus on the most valuable medieval section of the castle’s second floor. The project has received support from the Slovak Ministry of Culture through the Let’s Restore Our House programme and is co-financed by Železiarne Podbrezová, the owner of the castle.
The beginning of the reconstruction was personally visited by the Slovak Minister of Culture, Martina Šimkovičová. She was welcomed by Vladimír Soták, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Železiarne Podbrezová, Ján Villim, Member of the Board, and Vladimír Homola, the castle’s curator. During the visit, they presented the results of the long-term restoration process as well as future development plans for this important cultural monument.
The current restoration focuses on the castle’s most historically, artistically, and architecturally valuable medieval spaces. The project is based on detailed restoration research and professional architectural documentation, with the goal of preserving the authentic historical character while making the site even more accessible to visitors through modern presentation methods.
The restoration of Ľupča Castle is also part of Železiarne Podbrezová’s broader ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) strategy. In addition to investing in sustainable production technologies and environmental improvements, the company has long supported cultural heritage preservation, regional development, and local communities. Protecting and revitalizing a historical monument of national importance represents a tangible example of the company’s social responsibility and long-term commitment to sustainable development.
The project also brings significant benefits to the Horehronie region. Every year, thousands of visitors come to the castle, supporting tourism, local services, and employment opportunities. Local craftsmen, carpenters, blacksmiths, and regional companies are actively involved in the restoration works, contributing to the regional economy.
Despite the ongoing reconstruction, the castle will remain open to visitors according to current opening hours. The systematic restoration carried out by Železiarne Podbrezová for more than two decades demonstrates that responsible business can create value not only for industry, but also for culture, society, and future generations.
