Summer jobs at Železiarne Podbrezová continue to be very popular among students this year. During the holidays, dozens of young people from secondary schools and universities are helping out in various production operations, gaining not only financial rewards but also valuable work experience.

At the end of the first month of the summer holidays, we spoke to several temporary student workers and asked them to share their impressions. They agree that the main attractions are good earnings, a friendly team, high-quality training, and the opportunity to experience a real working environment.

They Particularly Appreciate the Team

Maroš Škoda from the Secondary Industrial School of Transport in Zvolen is working at the steelworks for the first time. “It’s great here. My colleagues are always willing to help me, so I’m satisfied and I haven’t had any problems so far,” he says. He plans to continue working until the end of August and would recommend the summer job to other students as well.

Lea Mišunová from Ján Chalupka Grammar School in Brezno has a similarly positive view of her experience. She works at the defect inspection equipment in the new plant. “I received excellent training and I have great colleagues, so I would definitely choose this summer job again,” she said.

An Experience Worth Having

Lukáš Košík from the Jozef Murgaš Secondary Industrial School in Banská Bystrica already worked at the steelworks last year and also returned to work during weekends. In the tube drawing mill, he works as a tube drawer and bundler. In addition to the good team, he also appreciates the financial reward.

Patrik Chriašteľ from the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra has been working at the company as a temporary student worker for more than two years. He has worked in several positions and particularly appreciates the possibility of arranging the number and timing of his shifts. “I would recommend this summer job to every young person because it is a good way to earn some extra money and the work is not that demanding,” he says.

Also an Opportunity to Gain Experience in Their Field

For some students, a summer job is also an opportunity to learn more about the field they would like to pursue in the future. Adam Švantner from the Private Joint School of Železiarne Podbrezová studies electrical engineering and had already gained experience at the steelworks during his school practical training. During the summer, he works on a tube end-pointing machine.

“I’m satisfied, and we also have a great team. Night shifts are more demanding, but they can be managed,” he says. At the same time, he points out that it is important to follow safety rules when working in a production environment.

The experiences of this year’s temporary student workers show that a summer job at Železiarne Podbrezová is not only about earning money. It also gives students new experience, work habits, and an opportunity to learn how a manufacturing company operates.

According to the students themselves, there is certainly no reason to be afraid of giving it a try.
