ErasmusDays 2025 – Education as an Investment in the Future
At Železiarne Podbrezová, we have long regarded the education of young people as one of the most important investments in the future. That is why we are pleased that the Private Grammar School of Železiarne Podbrezová, of which we are the founder, is actively involved in international educational initiatives and Erasmus+ programme projects.
During ErasmusDays 2025, held under the motto “The Future Is in Our Hands”, the school prepared a wide range of activities focused on sustainability, mental health, environmental education, outdoor learning, and the sharing of experiences from international mobilities.
The programme included presentations by graduates of the “Eco&Chill Xmas” project and by third-year students involved in the “Science&Life: Indoors and Out” project, who shared their experiences from international mobilities in Poland and Germany. During these stays, they focused on sustainability, mental health, scientific exploration, and international cooperation.
Such personal international experiences are extremely valuable for young people – they foster independence, language skills, and the ability to function in a multicultural environment. At the same time, they motivate other students to engage in projects that broaden horizons far beyond the scope of everyday classroom learning.
Sustainability in Everyday Practice
The idea of sustainability was also translated into practical activities during ErasmusDays. A clothing, fashion accessory, and book swap was organised at the school, combined with a charitable collection. In a simple yet effective way, items were given a second life while promoting environmental responsibility.
The pleasant atmosphere of the event was enhanced by homemade sweet treats voluntarily prepared by students together with a school educator.
Landscape, Trees, and Human Responsibility
Students of the STEAM track took part in the workshop “Landscape, Trees & Us”, during which they discussed the importance of trees for ecosystem stability, mitigating the effects of climate change, and improving air quality. Activities included fieldwork, journal writing, and discussions about the role of bees as an irreplaceable part of nature.
Outdoor Learning and Environmental Care
In recent years, increasing emphasis has been placed on the importance of outdoor education. Teachers who completed an international course in Sweden shared their experiences with students of the sports and IT tracks through experiential outdoor activities.
The day also included practical action – litter collection in the Lopej area and on the school premises – allowing students to combine physical activity in the fresh air with a tangible benefit for their surroundings.
Mental Health as Part of Education
Students of the English language track took part in transplanting plants within the school and subsequently engaged in activities focused on mental and physical health. During the mini-workshop “Techniques for Managing Stress and Pressure”, they learned how to care for inner balance, mental well-being, and healthy physical movement.
Better education – a better future at home and abroad
An important part of the Erasmus+ activities was the project “Better Education – A Better Future”, which enabled eighteen students to complete a twelve-day vocational mobility in Córdoba, Spain. The project was carried out under the coordination of Romana Dovalová.
Students from the study programmes of mechatronics mechanic, machinery and equipment mechanic, and electrical mechanic took part in the mobility. During their stay, they worked in Spanish companies, gaining practical experience with modern technologies, production processes, electrical installations, CNC machines, welding, and equipment diagnostics.
Professional supervision and the safe course of the mobility were ensured by teachers Ivan Majer, Rastislav Marko, Romana Dovalová, and the school principal Miriam Pindiaková.
Expertise, Experience, and Cultural Enrichment
The international mobility was not only about work. Students also had the opportunity to explore Spanish culture, history, and way of life. They visited Gibraltar, the Almodóvar del Río castle known from the series Game of Thrones, historical landmarks of Córdoba, and local museums. They experienced traditional cuisine, customs, and values that shape everyday life in Andalusia.
Investing in Young People Makes Sense
At Železiarne Podbrezová, we are convinced that quality education, vocational training, and international experience are the foundation of a successful future for young people and the entire region. ErasmusDays activities and the “Better Education – A Better Future” project demonstrate that connecting schools, practical training, and international experience brings long-term value.
Supporting education is an investment that pays off – in the form of motivated, qualified, and value-driven young people, ready to succeed in an international environment as well.
