ANNUAL REPORT 2004 Ž E L E Z I A R N E P O D B R E Z O V Á 19 REPORT BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS One of the most important tasks in the scope of human resources is to keep all employees and the public informed. The Company is very open in communication with employees and the external environment and this is a pillar of crucial successful operation of the Company. The Company's newspaper – Podbrezovan and its radio station with daily broadcasting are important aspects of the communication activities. The newspaper celebrated its 60th anniversary of publishing in December 2004 and is the oldest company newspaper in Slovakia. The Company has started to use new progressive ways of communication. A new information strategy of the Company is based on internet and intranet technology and with the support of web pages and e-mail applications, bi-directional dataflow is facilitated. Železiarne Podbrezová, as the most important employer in the region, must also perform or sponsor state related activities or other social organizations. The Company puts efforts forth to help the regions which are not supported adequately from the state budget, providing contributions to the foundation Nadácia Železiarne Podbrezová. The foundation's support of education, health, social, cultural and sport activities amounted to SKK 2.1 million. The foundation believes that the support has helped beneficiaries overcome a critical period and partially cover their financial needs. 500 tis.
